When I first started dreaming up Ava of the Palms, it wasn’t in a studio or design lab. It was in our backyard on Sunday evenings: my kids painting with watercolors while I sketched color combos for a “someday” mommy and me loungewear line.
Back then, I thought I’d launch an entire collection right away: joggers, leggings, dresses, quarter zips, vests, tees... all of it. But once I started talking to production managers, reality came knocking. Every single silhouette needed its own technical design, pattern, sample, and minimum order quantity. The fairytale met the fine print.
So I had to make a choice: start small, or not at all.
When I looked at my sketches, the answer was obvious. The Resort Jogger was my heart piece. As a mom living 90% of my life in sweatpants, comfort was my compass. But I wanted something more: something that felt elevated, soft enough to wear at 4 a.m. with a baby on my hip, but chic enough for a coffee run at 10.
They had to have pockets (iykyk). They had to flatter a mom’s curves, they had to stretch for time on the floor with littles without showing the wear from it, and they absolutely needed to feel softer inside than out (why is it ever the opposite??) I tried on over 40 pairs of joggers before creating the ones I’d been dreaming of: the best joggers on earth, made for real mom life.
Every detail of the Resort Jogger came from that mission, to make something worthy of our everyday, and to make our everyday feel like a slice of paradise. Because we deserve to feel as good as we make everyone else feel.
And yes, our littles are getting the same treatment: buttery soft fabrics, bright joy-filled colors, and pockets for every seashell they collect along the way.
